Fendi
It is not a misnomer if somebody puts the name of Fendi as one of the most famous and important fashion house of Italy. Fendi is known all over the world for its unique fashion design creations. The Fendi empire of luxury started in 1925 when the husband and wife combine of Adele and Equardo Fendi opened the door of their small leather and fur store in Via del Plebiscito in the center of Rome. Equipped with its own workshop , the firm rose to a great height of popularity and in 1932 the Fendi’s opened their second shop at Via Piave. In no time they opened many more shops to sell their products. Now, one may find six Fendi shops located at Via Borgognona itself. The most important milestone in the process of progress for the company was the marriage that took place in the Fendi family between one of Adele Fendi’s daughter and Karl Langerfeld. Karl Langerfeld being a designer himself, created Fendi’s first couture collection which was launched in 1966. It immediately found success worldwide and caught the imagination of high profile clientele. The President of Bloomingdale, Marvin Traub, introduced Fendi’s leather works in USA. That opened the floodgate of evolving new ways of success in designing leather works which is comparatively cheaper and accessible to large section of population.
In the year 1999, Vuitton and Prada purchased 51 percent of Fendi’s shares. The controlling shareholder’s objective is to transform Fendi into the biggest fashion house in Italy and thereafter in the world, is a matter to be seen in near future if everything moves in the right direction. One can feel optimistic about the fact that the Fendi family is still in charge and in the helm of affairs of Fendi. Carla Fendi , one of the five sisters, is still very much active and involved in the business. Silvia Venturini, Anna’s daughter, is the Director of men’s fashions and Karl Langerfeld is still in charge of designing fur and women lines. Therefore, one should not feel disheartened to have a look at Fendi’s handbags even as on today.
